About Us

About Springwell Village Community Venue

A Charitable Community Venue

SVCV is a lively community hub offering something for everyone, regardless of age or ability. From fitness classes to arts and crafts, our inclusive space fosters social connections and personal growth. Check out our website for details on all our activities! We’re incredibly grateful to our funders, whose generous support makes it possible for us to keep providing opportunities, activities, and events for the whole community.

Our History

Since the mid-1960s, SVCV has been a bustling center hosting various groups and activities. Originally established as the Springwell Village Hall Association in July 1965, it evolved over the years. In 2009, a new constitution was adopted, and the name changed to Springwell Village Community Venue, reflecting its broader role in the community.

Situated at the heart of Springwell Village, a historic mining community, the venue is owned by Sunderland City Council, with a lease signed in 2007. Recent renovations, funded by grants from sources like The Strategic Initiatives Budget, Biffa Award, and Asda Foundation, have transformed the building into a modern, user-friendly space, ensuring its continued relevance for years to come.

Our Rooms & Venue

We offer a range of rooms for private hire, including a main hall with a stage for performances, a training room, community room, and dressing room. Whether it's for activities, children's parties, training sessions, or functions, our welcoming atmosphere and versatile spaces cater to various needs. Our community room even features a café, and convenient parking is available at the front of the building.

Cafe & Bar

Our Cozy Café is the perfect spot to relax, catch up with friends, or enjoy a tasty treat. We’re open Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 10am–2pm, with extended hours on Thursdays (10am–2pm & 5pm–8pm)  Come along for good food, good company, and a friendly welcome.

OUR COMMUNITY

Springwell Village Community Venue is based in the heart of Springwell Village (NE9 7RP), perfectly placed on the X1 and 56 bus routes linking us to Concord, The Galleries, Gateshead and Newcastle. Although part of Sunderland City Council’s area, we’re right on the border with Gateshead, making us easily accessible for neighbouring communities too. Just a short distance away you’ll also find local attractions such as the historic Bowes Railway Museum, adding to the village’s unique character and charm.
